Lingua Franca is the language that a multilingual group of people intentionally adopts or develops so that they can all communicate with each other.

As we adopt it, Lingua Franca is the common space in which we cross paths. It is a wordless dialogue that is established between people, nature, and space, as well as the surrounding context and heritage, through the ancestral language of music.

Starting in the 17th century, thousands of Europeans, including Portuguese, Italian, French, Spanish, English, and Dutch, fled the old continent to become Christian renegades, corsairs, and pirates in northern Africa, in cities like Algiers, Tunis, and Salé - authentic pirate enclaves and the first forms of proto-anarchist autonomous societies, operating outside the reach of governments and embracing unlimited freedom. 
Dozens from different countries and ethnicities would come together here, and the success of a pirate ship depended on the communication that developed among the crew members, who, not speaking the same language, were forced to find points of connection with each other and create a true Lingua Franca, which differed in form, phonetics, and content from ship to ship and crew to crew.  
Based on these authentic temporary autonomous zones and in a practical way, a working group is gathered for each episode of Lingua Franca to develop a process of creating its own microcosm. The aim is for the group to be as comprehensive and multifaceted as possible, including different ideas and reflections from musicians, performers, and thinkers for the establishment of a kind of provisional common cosmology based on the relationship created between them and the surrounding space, which can be translated in various ways: in a documentary, in a publication, on a record, in an idea.
